Traffic flow and traffic safety continues to be a prime concern within the City of Gig Harbor.  Most of our citizens report that their greatest concerns stem from traffic congestion on major thoroughfares and problems with speeding vehicles within their neighborhoods. Traffic is further increased due to the City's high influx of daily visitors and workers.  The goals and objectives of the Gig Harbor

Police Department Traffic Initiative are to reduce the number and severity of traffic collisions in the City.  This is done through education, accident investigation, collaboration with city engineers on design issues, and enforcement. Our Traffic Initiative includes motor officers, aggressive DUI enforcement, school speed zone enforcement, community education programs, the application of speed calming tools such as our portable speed trailer, and a consistent and firm enforcement of traffic laws.

In order to more effectively monitor and control inappropriate driving behavior on our City roads, the police department has created an electronic traffic complaint form. Our officers will respond with increased enforcement when possible and then follow-up with a summary of our enforcement actions. Working together we can reduce the number and severity of our traffic accidents.
